High-Leverage Practices: A Focus on Instruction series Session 1

High quality tier 1 instruction is essential for student success. High-Leverage Practices (HLPs)
have been shown to improve student outcomes when successfully implemented. This
series of sessions will provide participants with practical tools and strategies to deliver
effective instruction to meet the needs of all students.
Sessions will provide a deep dive into the HLPs referenced under the instructional domain:
• Session 1: Learning Goals, Systematic Design of Instruction, and Adaptations – HLPs
11-13
• Session 2: Explicit Instruction, Scaffolded Supports, and Metacognition – HLPs 14-16
• Session 3: Generalization, Flexible Grouping, and Student Engagement – HLPs 17-18, 21
• Session 4: Intensive Instruction, Meaningful Feedback, and Assistive and Instructional
Technology – HLPs 19-20, 22
