He's right. Got mine 10 years ago. It had 98k miles on it, beautiful condition, but I paid $19k for an eight year old vehicle with that mileage. Was concerned that I made a mistake. Now it's 18 years old, 263k miles, and with minimal maintenance, still running beautifully. I've done a couple things, radiator, front bearings, but it's ended being one of the cheapest vehicles I've ever owned all in all. Not as pretty now, I had five kids grow up in it. My daughter is driving it mainly now.

Best vehicle I’ve ever owned. Grandfather gave it to me as a first car at 140k. Drove it to 290k, pizza delivery, off-roading, 10k mile plus road trips, Lexie did it all. Sadly I had to let it go due to rust since it spent its life in upstate New York. Now I own a 2020 gx460, this one’s gonna go to 400 :)

Believe it or not, my 2020 GX460 did 24 miles per galon with a speed 58 miles straight highway. One time. Every trip in upstate N.Y. 21 miles per gallon .I love my Lexus GX460.

I work for a Lexus dealership here in Westchester NY and I kid you not I saw one in our service department with over 730, 000 miles and the engine still ran smooth. If these are well kept you will get your moneys worth out of them.

I have a 2004 GX470 that I purchased new. It has 107, 000 miles on it with a complete service history. All service work has been performed by the Lexus dealer I purchased it from. Scotty's fuel mileage estimates are pretty much spot on. It is a gas hog, but it is rock solid reliable. I get my oil changed every 5, 000 miles, using only Mobil 1 full synthetic since the very first oil change. My GX has been the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned. Things don't break on it.

I have had the timing belt replaced twice...once at 50, 000 miles in 2012 because the water pump developed a leak and had to be replaced. The dealer recommended I replace the timing belt at the same time, because most of the cost of replacing both is the labor in getting to the area where they are in the engine bay. I had both replaced again in April of this year, not because there were any issues, but because it had been ten years since I had it replaced the last time. Lexus recommends the timing belt replacement every 100, 000 miles OR ten years.

One issue with the GX, plus some other Toyota models of this time period was the dashboard cracking and getting sticky. They had a special extended warranty on it for a while. I noticed a small crack in mine well after that extended warranty expired, in 2021. Being that it's Lexus and I had a very long and extensive relationship with my dealer, I called Lexus corporate about the dash. Short answer, Lexus agreed to cover the whole cost of parts and labor to replace my dashboard. My dealer gave me a new Lexus to drive for the few hours it took for them to complete the job. After 18 years of owning this vehicle, I'm still a satisfied Lexus customer.

statistically speaking

The Toyota Land Cruiser and 08-22 sequoia are tied as the number one most reliable full size vehicles ever made.

My 08 sequoia has 206k miles. No issues. Still runs like new.

My uncle had one. Couldn't kill it. Loved how quiet and comfortable it was. He also had a Lexus LS430....couldn't kill either vehicle. Great years of Lexus products with amazing reliability!

2003 GX470 with 182, 000 miles - runs like a dream. paid $12, 000 at 177, 000 miles. Also it is very comfortable.

I didn’t like my now wife’s GX460 but borrowed it for a couple of weeks and got 19.5 mpg commuting avg 70 miles a day Scotty. Towed stuff a big trailer and got 14 mpg, it definitely changed what I buy. I’ve wasted stacks of $ over the years driving domestic crap that always had recalls and warranty issues. You’ve pointed out all the best vehicles and I notice so many true mechanics drive what you recommend. 👍

Picked up a 2008 GX470 in May with 144k miles for $15, 000. Flew down to Mississippi for it (extra clean frame!). Super happy with it!

168, 000 miles on my 07 GX470 - Lifted it, put Method RIMs with KO2 265/75/17 (i think) - Dobbins Coilover shocks, Roof Rack with Ladder on the back - I just recently put a sleeping fold up platform in the back... Almost a full overlander at this point.

I love my GX 470. MPG is my only complaint if I had to pick something but, I already knew what I was getting myself into. Planning on running it until it doesn't run anymore, 230k and still going strong.

I really think that one main reason these vehicles keep on going is because they have a timing belt. It forces you to change the belt. While your at it, change the water pump, antifreeze, thermostat, and might as well get a new radiator. Not that much money compared to having to replace your entire vehicle.

I own the GX460 (successor to the GX470) and it is the best vehicle that I have ever owned - period. It will go just about anywhere, rides like a dream on the road, and has all of the creature comforts. Its basically a wonderful car. Scotty is 100% correct.

I’m blessed with a 2012 460. I just drove to Ocean City with new wheels. Best ride I ever had. 20+ miles per gallons.
