i am a kashmiri pandit and i have seen my parents as well as grand parents getting emotional when we talk about kashmir . my grandparents left kashmir thinking that they will come back in 1 month and they literally brought clothes and other things for only 1 month but i guess the 1 month wait is still not over for many kashmiri pandits . my grandmother has not been to kashmir, her home place, for 40 years now and this isnt just abt my family but surely for others kashmiri pandits

My grandfather cried so much a few months ago when one of his brothers went to visit their old mansion on Bangladesh and it was lying in waste with trees breaking the walls and overgrowth everywhere. Everything looked so ancient and haunted and my grandfather broke down looking at them through pictures.

He often told stories of times when he lived in plenty, when they didn’t have to think about food or shelter or money and then the partition happened. And he became a begger in the streets of India. He ran across borders, watched some of his brothers die, watched his mother die, lost all his money, and came running barefoot with one shirt on his back. But he has overcome. He has fought and won and it’s because of him that I live in a house now, that as I child I didn’t need to think about what we were going to eat the next day. It broke me to see him so broke, so lost, reminiscing the past.

I m also kashmiri pandit. Cant even equalize my pain of never being in kashmir with my papa and grandfather they would have suffered way more as kashmiri hindus. Idk if i will be see kashmir in this life time of mine. They r blessed they got to see. Leaving from ur own place and being called refugees in own country. When all ur friends visit their hometown and u cannot u just sit with unexplainable emotions ❤️‍🩹something that cant be healed even in more than 40 yrs
