Today I go over how to block the Inside Zone Read against an Even front. I talk about the Run Pass Options we us when running the Inside Zone Read and how we deal with those Apex Defenders that want to ruin the perfect play in football.

Today on offensive breakdown, I break down NFL schemes that get covered by the likes of QB School and Brett Kollmann. That’s right, the spread offensive breakdown is seen in NFL offenses and are covered by the QB School and Brett Kollmann

Not NFL Offense, But brett kollmann breaks down NFL game film and offensives. This QB School like offensive breakdown goes deep into the NFL spread concepts and how high school football can use NFL style plays covered by brett kollmann and QB School

i like the way you block the zone, most coaches have a problem when you do it this way. they usually say that playside LB will blitz the b gap. even if that play-side LB blitzes the b gap he is taking himself out of the play. because your running it through the a gap.

During the stay at home sojourn, I have been reading a lot of my very old football coaching books and recently took the Homer Rice Triple Option Football Book written in 1973 off my shelf. Coach Rice implemented an incredible offense at Cincinnati in the late 1960's, making Greg Cook an All-American. He combined the triple option (which he created) with the dropback passing game using 20 personnel. Do you know of any coaches using the original triple option with the Air Raid? Mike Leach stated before playing Air Force in the Cheez-it Bowl that the conventional triple option is still a potent weapon, and he believed it could even work as a regular part of an NFL offense. Baylor's Art Briles ran the veer and shoot. Is it possible to create the veer raid using more air raid pass patterns with the conventional triple option? Maybe combining the Paul Johnson and Mike Leach offenses into one? Dr. Rice's offense was so easy to implement as there were a minimum number of formations, sometimes just four different ones, and about 15 basic plays to master. This offense could still be implemented in 3 days.

I can understand that if the Mike LB blitzes B gap, because he is coming from some depth, the back can still stay on his track to backside A and most likely be fine. I see an issue with the 3 technique, if teams start to figure out when you are running IZ, or just adjust what their 3 tech is doing, he can stem inside and unless you have a very good OG, he most likely is taking some kind of playside footwork to the right and would whiff on a 1/2 decent 3 tech stemming inside.
Because that 3 tech isn't coming from the depth that the Mike is, he could get to the RB before he can get to his path in the backside A gap.

The way I've seen to avoid this issue is if the Center has an open A gap to his right, he takes 2 steps playside with his eyes on the playside knee of the 3 technique. If the knee goes away or stays in his gap, he's immediately climbing to the mike. If he comes inside, the center and guard are stopping the perpetrator and between the two of them have to also get to the mike.

This turns the backside guard into a 1 on 1 against the nose, but typically we have run into shade's that are wanting to play into the center first which basically turns the backside guard's block into a downblock and just to try and wash him as far past the midline as possible.

Have you run into 3 techniques stemming inside and wrecking havoc on your IZ play run this way?

Hey coach I just have a simple question about your formations. How do you adjust your RB for plays like Buck or Inside Zone or into pistol? Do you have a call on your formation does the kid have to know from the play. I'm trying to simplify my play calling so I am curious. Keep up the great work, I wish you could post more often.

something that we have changed was 90 percent of teams read the end. Well football is often a individual struggle to make a single defenseman not do their job and exploit that.  Well trying having your QB read the Play Side Inside Backer and block out on the play side DE. since so often the DE job is to tackle the first dive back and bend down the line that means the ILB has to scrap over the top and get the QB.. the only problem is that will change your blocking rules. but it can be a nice weekly change vs a better team to force them to change their assignments.

Coach awesome, but question what is the difference between a inside and a duo (am I saying that right)?

Question and great video by the way, why can't uncovered guards just go straight to the 2nd level and get a hat on a hat? Thanks

That is great coach, but I am not facing almost any team with two safeties deep. Is there a chance to have the same against 1 safety deep defense? I am ok with even or odd front, makes no difference in our scheme.

Hey coach!
I am a 5’8” left tackle for my 12 year old team, and I’ve noticed a major problem with inside zone draw.
When running it, we use it against zone defense, and I block the end and so forth
But when we run it the OLB will come around me and our other tackle to stop the play
Any tips?

Coach what do you call it when you utilize a down block and then the back side line man scoop blocks to the linebacker

Hey Coach looks like you’re running this to the 1 tech. How would you run this to the 3? Unless it’s in the vid and I just missed it..?

Would you try to run the RPO with 9 and 10year olds

Dont agree! You got a Pre Snap Zone, it will be the Strong arm side of your Qb. You got the Box and you have a Read Box is Full, cause Six again five. Pre Snap Side is covered. But your Read Side is wide open. Give your F a Hitch Route allways five
