Its about intrest and further vision towards future. They invent from zero information, they aren't known about results after a long hardwork but the motivation and interest drives on further. We common people mostly gets result after the a little hardwork but they are the one who just keep doing lots and lots of inventions and experiments.I m proud to have such amazing scientists in my world!

Other than my last comment you go girl ! It’s inspiring to see girls as successful scientists. Love that they let a women scientist do this talk to show we are hard working and have brains and don’t just rely on men for money

A PhD in basic science makes you have the license to practice science. A University is just a special extension of government employees. If the "Government" wants you, you will be hired to start as an assistant professor. Then all these factors will dictate your research and academic career for the remaining of your life: number of publications, citations, impact factors and government research grants. It has to be similar both the government and scientists, example, Thailand government- Thai scientists, German government- German scientists, Japan government- Japanese scientists, Canada government- Canadian scientists, etc. Stephen Hawking is a British scientist, his employer is British government.
