Coal flames up makes water hot and makes steam.
Steam turns a turbine.
The Turbine moves.
The kinetic energry (movement energry) turns into electric.
The electric powers stuff down a line.
Done.

Pretty good. But most power stations are NOT built close to coal sources. They are built strategically throughout the service area. They are usually built by a river for abundant cooling water. I worked for the TVA for 35 years as a nuclear and coal fired control room operator. I unloaded hundreds of coal trains. We got most of our coal from the Powder River Basin in Wyoming. So you might want to revise your video a little bit about the coal supply.

Why is the steam condensed after it passes through the turbines? Why not just re-heat it? Why throw away the energy in cooling towers? In my opinion, this is a fundamental flaw.

Instead of burning the coal to produce heat. Wjy cant they use the heat from the sun in giant coil heat sinks? Obviously heating the coal is the part that takes the most energy. Why cant we come up with something better? We dont evwn need coal really. Wind turbines can produxe enough energy to heat the steam.
