THE RAES A Little Lovin' Keeps The Doctor Away

Another vibey disco track from the prolific pens of Dino Fekaris and Freddie Perren, the dynamic duo responsible for the comeback extravaganzas that were Peaches & Herb (Shake your groove thing; Reunited) and Gloria Gaynor (I will survive)

The Raes were a Welsh / Canadian husband and wife team and although they released a few dance singles in the late 1970's, 'A Little Lovin' Keeps the Doctor Away' is perhaps their best known.
Robbie Rae being Welsh and Cherrill Yates British born but a Canadian citizen who spent time back in England where she met her future husband and singing partner. A disco-fied take on 'Que Sera Sera' provided the Raes with a hit in Canada and Juno nominations. Their 1979 album 'Dancing up a storm' was their most successful, generating the Top 5 dance chart release 'A little lovin'.
It unfortunately only made #61 on the Top 100, The pair stopped recording and their union within the next year, and sadly Robbie Rae passed away in 2006. The group leaves behind this fab disco cut, uplifting, catchy and definitely a poppy postcard from 1979.

Gosh...what memories. In 1979, I was a sophomore in high school. I was the oldest in an Irish Catholic family, which meant I was not allowed to stay out....to take risks...or to get any tips from older siblings on how to sneak into the clubs etc.

But I remember some of my classmates...the 'cool kids', and who had older siblings...they would speak in hushed tones of these magical sounding clubs that they would go to on the weekends. I could clearly imagine the clubs they went to..they sounded very large...'exciting'...and I knew (thanks to the disco music that I played on the radio, via my personal boombox in my bedroom) that the music at these clubs was spectacular.

Oh how I wished I could have experienced these clubs, but alas, I wasn't cool enough to be invited to join them, nor did my own particular friends have any clue or inclination to try and sneak into these clubs. ;-(

Cut to 1980...or was it 1981...when I finally made it to a disco. By then, the writing was on the wall. Looking back, you could sense that disco was waning, and that other types of music....punk, etc., were taking over. But hey, at least I DID make it to a few clubs. And I can so vividly remember some of the outfits I wore:....white cotton 'balloon' type pants with an elastic waist...black peep-toe high heel pumps...a black button down shirt with cap sleeves, and a white silk scarf with black and fuschia stripes, tied at the waist to wear as a decorative belt. LOL

And even though I was very late to the game, I'll never forget....I DID get to see Sylvester performing live, at a disco in Boston!! Lucky me.

Long live disco!

This was very popular in the late seventies. A true disco music which remains in our heart 20.03.22
I remember it well in Summer of 1979 that saw and heard this Couple in Disco TV Show. Since then, the music stucked my head and after 47 years, I still feel like 14 years old dancing and singing.😅

In my opinion, Miss Rae had the best voice of the late 70's and early 80's on the airwaves. Just beautiful music.

The 45 version is good but the 12 inch with the unforgettable break is amazing.
