A top Senate committee grilled top tech executives today over the increasing number of foreign adversaries working to interfere online in the 2024 presidential election, including Iran, Russia and China. NBC News' Ryan Nobles has details.

While going after bad actors that spread misinformation and the companies that allow it (social media, TV channels, etc) is key, we should also be looking at giving resources and strategies in civics education, inclusion, diversity and critical thinking. A society should invest in its population ability to discern and filter out bad information. It will also help against scammers too (both the digital and in real life).

Misinformation is the free market of ideas, if you are afraid of ideas that challenge your beliefs or perspectives. Rather than engaging with them thoughtfully, you dismiss them outright, allowing falsehoods to circulate unchecked. A true free market of ideas requires critical thinking, open debate, and a commitment to seeking the truth, even when it's uncomfortable.
