I think it would generally be better if you did this on a separate layer where you could use a mask, reduce opacity to take some of the effect off where you don't want it, Also would be interesting to play with blend modes.

I will use this because my PS skills suck but so far I have found the generative fill to create questionable images at best.

The old Impression 2.0 from Topez does a much better job of this IMO.

The olde school tools found under the Filter menu option worked better for this effect IMHO. I'm talking Photoshop version 5, 4 or 3 era when the user, not a server, was the artist. Don't get me wrong, the new tools in Lightroom and Photoshop - including AI - are handy tools for a number of or certain types of edits. But they are no substitute for art and artistry.

You stated, "Because, with Generative AI, you're limited to a 2000 by 2000 pixel resolution.", however, I noticed the image you're working on, is 2000 by 3000. Not being nit picky, just my observation and I'm curious if your results may have come out better by working within those constraints.

Next trick, show us how to apply the paint effect to a selection. Eg: girl is a photo, background is impressionistic

There's a place for generative AI, but it's not in my photography. It's generally forbidden in photo competitions, the result is no longer my art. I will continue shooting out of focus, waving my camera over my head, tilting at stupid angles, zooming the lens. And playing silly buggers in photoshop.

This might be kool, but it's not what I want to do.

I've tried your methods in Windows....it works great for everything except human faces. The results I'm getting are frankly grotesque....faces look severely deformed. Any ideas please

Anthony Morganti sounds rather unenthusiastic and unimpressed about this Photoshop capability. For sure, in my view, most examples he shows are poor renditions of watercolor paintings, amply justifying his attitude.
My use also generally rendered poor watercolor paintings. However, generating oil paintings have rendered great results. They have turned out to be quite believable images, projecting credible, creative and artistic looking oil paintings.
