Показать описание
Demolition of the old Kann's Department Store in the Virginia Square section of Arlington, Virginia. Kann's was located there from 1951 to 1975. In recent years the building has been used by George Mason University.
Demolition was delayed when a major hydraulic hose ruptured. The hose was replaced, absorbent was spread, and demolition resumed.
Produced by John Z Wetmore, producer of "Perils For Pedestrians".

They say that it is a psychological disorder to enjoy buildings being torn down. I’m writing this from the day room at the Funny Farm.

Oh crap. Now this place is the Anton Scalia Law School. Should have left well enough alone.

Seems like a breaker would be much faster on those big vertical columns.

I don’t know how many times I’ve seen it but, it seems like most of the time the machine operator is possibly uneducated about what it is that absolutely does & does not need to be crushed. I could “NOT” believe that it was actually caught on camera. Possibly within the first 30 minutes the operator bumped a wall that was all brick & knocked down a huge section of the wall without trying, completely by accident. It obviously seemed to surprise the operator because when the brick wall section fell, the machine movement completely stopped for at least 2 to 4 seconds which shows that the operator doesn’t know that the brick only needs to be bumped or pushed to make it fall. It is so damn ridiculous that an operator would use a machine to crush brick &/or concrete block. Let’s face it, machine operators that don’t know not to waste time on the crushing of brick & concrete block are either extremely “GREEN” or they’ve been living in a bubble. Just a little bit of contact with the implement on the excavator arm is all it takes to make the bricks “COME TUMBLING DOWN”. Machine operation does seem to be quite basic but, unfortunately it’s not obvious. Turn the new operators loose on a machine for a few minutes to see what they know. If it doesn’t look good then take the beginner operators by the hand just like in kindergarten, baby steps. At times some operators act as if they’re scared of the machine or that they might break the machine.

Well, guess the air conditioning don't work anymore! Should we call the service technician?

Looks like the operator has done this work before!!!!. That rebar looks close to ripping those hydraulic lines out.

Real estate is expensive there. If its not being used it needs to go and put something better in its place

Arlington became a dump, they should go take that demolition gear next & go get rid of the Landmark Mall in Alexandria Virginia, that place is trash even with Amazon using it

I'm halfway through this Demo vid, this has to be one of the worst designed buildings I have ever seen, the top floors are all HVAC equipment, it's built like a parking deck with red brick covering every inch, I guess building materials were way cheaper back whenever this hulk of a building was built. This thing almost would have survived an atomic bomb blast.
