Sadly not the last time a young life will be lost due to speeding. Young people think they are immortal. This should serve as a somber reminder that that is not the case.

The wreck, at 11th Ave S and 43rd St S, is in the middle of a residential neighborhood. The roads are so narrow that they don't even have center lines, it's just houses and parks, there's not even a convenience store at that intersection. So how on earth did the car end up going fast enough to kill two kids? There is no excuse for speeding and killing someone _anywhere, _ but doing 60 on a highway or 80 on an interstate makes more sense than doing, what, 50+ in a residential neighborhood! If the pole hadn't been there the car could have gone _through_ a house and killed people asleep in their beds!

My heart breaks for her and the family. That is my biggest fear now that my son drives... We can teach them to be safe, to call us when they can't or shouldn't drive or be in the car with another driver who is impaired. We can drill the rules of the roads into their heads but what we can't do is control other cars on the road. It doesn't help that a lot of these roads in Pinellas and Pasco counties are extremely dangerous and all our roads need upgrades and more safely features...All my love and Prayers to this devastated family.
