This is my transcription of Dickey Betts and Dan Toler's jam on Horace Silver's "The Preacher," recorded in their hotel room.

"The Preacher" was written and recorded by Horace Silver. The original is played as a standard swing tune in the key of F. Dickey Bett's adapted it as a up-tempo western swing tune and plays it in the key of A. It's a part of his repertoire with his band Great Southern, which Dan Tolerations was a member of.

Dickey jamming to Horace Silver! Dickey has forgotten more music than most musicians will ever learn in 5 lives. But, as shown here, he hasn't forgotten a thing.

Great job! This was my favorite tune from that video they did down in Gainesville. Love Dan Toler’s part and always wanted to learn the way Dickie is comping his ass off behind him.

It really needs an edit with some Bob Wills babbling nonsense in the background.

Thanks again for posting this.

Love this. I have been aware of this video for years and years and I have been obsessively playing this since you came out with it. Thanks again Craig.

This is really hard for me. I keep coming back to it and learning more pieces. Good measuring stick for progress of speed and accuracy.

What I love about your channel is that you have tabs that play while you hear the whole song. Makes me feel like I’m playing as the guitarist in the song.

You should do a whole song tab with original music for St. Stephan
