I thank you for the review of the 159. It is very weighty. I think the X159 with the #8 nib is a great alternative.

I think I have mentioned it before. It does come in black, burgundy and blue resin. And the nib writes like a dream. I have the Fine nib. It also comes in XF, but the Fine is a great writer.

It is a bit more money that the 159 but it is still under USD10.

Hi Garry, I too have had difficulty with the pen drying out. After a few weeks of not being used, the cartridge I was usung was dried out as well. Something must not be sealing well. The X159 seems much better,

It is ok for daily use like journal and exam and daily writing

Gary, I'm going to join the chorus here: the X159 is pretty amazing. I just ordered my second one and it was $8 US. The first one feels great and wonderfully smooth writer.

From where you purchased this pen for 7 dollars? Does this include shipping as well?

Hi Garry. I would highly recommend the new Jinhao X159. I have several examples of the original 159 because they had a nice choice of colours. It's a pretty good pen for the price. My main criticism of the 159 is its weight. A more minor criticism is the no.6 nib looks a bit small for the size of the pen. In the X159 the no.8 size nib looks better proportioned to the overall looks of the pen. Another minor moan is the awful clip design. Again, in this respect, the X159 is much better. I think you'll enjoy the X159 unless of course lightweight pens are just not your thing.
