So believable, but immensely talented, its now so sad music hall etc people born with talent are not recognized, its now manufactured TV media tripe,

George (Dr.Evadne Hinge) just about holds back laughing after the water shoots all over him! I was always invited back stage after a stage show, as George had worked once with my best friend, lovely man, very down to earth, Patrick lived and breathed Dame Hilda, always prefered an early night to be fresh in the the morning to do 'Dear Ladies', George on the other hand prefered to put on a pair of jeans and a t shirt and go to the local night clubs, till the early hours, in reality Patrick Fyffe was much quieter, and George was the more talkative outgoing one, (total role reversal from Dame Hilda and Dr.Evadne), Same with Laurel and Hardy, Hardy would do a days work, then do his own thing, and Laurel would be busy writing, pumping out new ideas for a Laurel and Hardy. One of the beauties of Hinge and Bracket was the parts were played with such truth, always hard to imagine they were really two men.

I loved Dame Hilda's regular phone chats with the never-seen Teddy and Peggy, and her cries of horror at pensioner Peggy's latest hospitalisation from a hang-gliding, water-skiing or ski-diving calamity!

Patrick Fyffe was totally convincing as Dame Hilda, I suspect he had studied ladies of that generation and class, to get it so right. Hilda was adorable, I love her energy and unfailing cheerfulness! I like to think she was perhaps modelled on his own grannies and aunties. Aspects of her, especially her immaculate style, remind me of my dear, much-missed, always beautifully turned-out Grannie, who was born in 1909.
