My Aunt Adele was a teacher in Fairbanks AK from 1943 and continued to live there after her retirement.
She was an avid gardener and used to send me pictures of the vegetables she’d grow.
Huge tomatoes 6” across and cabbages over 2’ across, so heavy she had to have help to lift them into the house. She said it was due to the incredibly rich soil Alaska boasted of having.
Due to the very short growing season she started the plants in her greenhouse, but the rich soil and extended sunlight of summer meant prodigious harvests.
