Dancers Having Fun Ep. 12: Rudolf Nureyev - 'Swine Lake '

Показать описание
About this pas de deux: Russian-born ballet dancer and actor Rudolf Nureyev (1938-1993) was the guest star on The Muppet Show episode 213.

After being invited, when asked by The Muppet Show producers which character he would most like to dance with, he said Miss Piggy.
Nureyev can be seen in a parody of classical ballet accompanied by Miss Piggy in a “pas de deux” from “Swine Lake” (allusion to Swan Lake, "swine" meaning pig and a contemptible person).

One of those things that probably shouldn't exist and yet you're glad it does...

Miss Piggy Ballerina is the superb ballet Australian ballet dancer Graham Fletcher, formerly with The Royal Ballet at The Royal Opera House. He also dressed as Fletcher Bird and the Big Black Spider, during his time on The Muppet Show.

I remember watching these before and I remember that I had been very sorry for Miss Piggy how she got treated by him....Though, I do understand poor Nurejev in this parody (; Dance of the four little swans and pas d'action including the jumpy closure -
Swan Lake is perfectly useful for parodies again and again.

Did they ever credit the ballerina? Under the heavy costume, you can see she knows how to dance, and I always wondered if this was someone whose name I would know or who became famous. Thanks for posting this memory from my profligate youth!

This reminds me of - - Irina Shapchits Coppélia Kirov Ballet (Swanilda solo). And Shapchits and Zavialov - - they dance in a lively manner - - and with reckless abandon. Zavialov holds Shapchits firmly - - in his hands and arms - - and then he becomes aware - - she isn't her - - and so he flings her to the ground. Rudolf's Swine Lake is a very nice - - comic ballet - - and I love it too. Thank you again @ DanceLine Ballet - - for sharing.

To people who still believe that ballet must be serious : watch his 1973 Don Quixote.
