Tokyo Skytree (東京スカイツリー ツアー) is a tower for TV broadcasting and a Tokyo landmark. Tokyo Skytree is the tallest building in Japan with a height of 634 meters or 2,080 ft. At its base stands a large shopping center with an aquarium. A bluish-white color called aijiro is painted on the outside and is officially called "Skytree White". Tokyo Skytree mirrors Japan's historic 5-storey pagoda design.
From a height of about 350 m (1,150 ft) and above, the framework of the tower is cylindrical to provide panoramic views of the river and the city.
The upper observatory features a spiral skywalk paved with glass, where visitors climb the last 5 meters to the highest point on the upper platform. A glass flooring portion provides tourists with a direct downward view of the streets below.
Tokyo Skytree, with a central shaft made of reinforced concrete, has seismic proofing. For the first 125 meters (410 ft.) above ground, the principal internal pillar is connected to the outer tower framework. From there, the pillar is attached to the tower frame with oil dampers which act as cushions during an earthquake up to 375 meters (1,230 ft.).
