In this rail centred travel guide we explore the ‘Swiss’ city of Basel and the French city of Mulhouse. From Basel we undertake a journey by boat along the Rhine to Rheinfelden-(home of the Feldschlösschen Brewery.

Switzerland’s most northerly city is full of interest for tourists who like to get around using public transport. The oldest tramway in the country is a breeze to use with some good value day cards keep the cost down! We use it to reach the old town from central station, the maritime museum and reach the harbour where we commence our boat trip to Rheinfelden.

Our other day trip takes us into France to the nearby city of Mulhouse. It’s a delightful city in its own right but with the added advantage of an extensive tramway (including a new “tram-train”) an automotive museum and the national railway museum.
