David Pakman, I fact-checked you, as you suggested, this is what the paper says:

We found that the distribution of deleterious variants in ACE2 differs among 9 populations in gnomAD (v3). Specifically, 39% (24/61) and 54% (33/61) of deleterious variants in ACE2 occur in (AFR) and Non-Finnish European (EUR) populations, respectively (Fig. 1b). Prevalence of deleterious variants among Latino/Admixed American (AMR), East Asian (EAS), Finnish (FIN), and South Asian (SAS) populations is 2–10%, while Amish (AMI) and Ashkenazi Jewish (ASJ) populations do not appear to carry such variants in ACE2 coding regions (Fig. 1b).

Which newer research shows this paper made a mistake calculating those deleterious variants in ACE2 occurring in AFR (39%) and EUR (54%) population and less (2-10%) in AMR, EAS, FIN, SAS and not at all in AMI and ASJ? Can you show me a reference for this claim?
Can you show me a reference that those deleterious variants of ACE2 are extremely rare, as you claim, and are not delineated with those specified populations?

In general, I agree with you, although AMI and ASJ populations may be genetically less susceptible, this doesn't mean that those population are really getting less sick from COVID as many other factors (or other genes) may be involved.

However, that being said, I really don't see why RFK Jr. would be a racist because of this? Are the authors of this study also racist and anti-semitic now? Can we not study the effects of genes more prevalent in certain populations on disease?

I think we’re misinterpreting this a bit and jumping to conclusions. RFK said that he didn’t know if they were “deliberately” targeting certain ethnic groups, he was simply pointing out that was the net result. You’d have to watch the original video to hear it though, as David Pakman started talking again right when this was said.

Most people are not familiar with how the term "target" is commonly used in virology as in "targeted cells" or "targeted species", etc. According to Bing: In virology, the term “target” is used to describe the cells or tissues that a virus infects. According to the published paper referenced by RFK Jr, COVID-19 has the ability to more efficiently target certain genetic variations of the human ACE2 receptor in different ethnic groups. The study found that the Amish and Ashkenazi Jews were the least susceptible because they did not have the variations of ACE2 that are most easily targeted by COVID-19.


RFK Jr was referencing this paper to show that COVID-19 has this capability to target certain ethnic groups. He did not say that COVID-19 was deliberately engineered by the Chinese and Jews to do this. It is the New York Post that said this is what he meant. They did not ask for a clarification from him before they posted their embellished interpretation. They construed his use of the term "targeted” to mean "deliberately engineered". They could do this because the general public is not familiar with the way the term "targeted" is used in virology. They even added the concept that it was designed to "spare the Jews".

The real issue here is that the New York Post exploited his scientific use of the term "targeted" to push the ridiculous idea that he thinks COVID-19 was engineered by the Jews and Chinese together as an ethnically targeted bioweapon. It is the New York Post that should be criticized, not RFK Jr.
