Not sure how they can call it a Dire Wolf when it has no actual Dire Wolf DNA. They basically CRISPRed a new species Wolf.

The Passenger Pigeon. I grew up near the Cincinnati Zoo where the last one died in 1914. They were also hunted to extinction. Because they went extinct so recently, we know a lot about them and have preserved specimens.

To clear some stuff up:

- the Colossal wolves are not dire wolves: they are grey wolves genetically modified to be as big as (real) dire wolves.

- no, dire wolves were NOT closer to jackals/foxes/maned wolves than to grey wolves. That is a COMPLETE MISINTEPRETATION of what that study actually said (which was that grey wolves and jackals were closer to EACH OTHER than either was to the dire wolf, which diverged at an earlier point, but later than foxes or maned wolves meaning it’s still closer to wolves + jackals than to foxes or maned wolves)

- literally everything we might be able to de-extinct went extinct recently in evolutionary time and was a contemporary of living animals, so they would not be some alien invasive species living animals and ecosystems cannot adapt to (or vice versa). We’re NOT talking about animals that went extinct “for a reason”, but animals that likely or definitely went extinct due to human activity and are missing parts of modern ecosystems.

Personally, I say bring back megalania (and other recently extinct Aussie megafauna) because Australia needs its true native apex predator back.

Geography teacher here - LOVE your increased attention to the spatial side of storytelling recently. It's so rare to actually get the maps - and I actually love the zoom in you do that an average person would see when they use Google Earth. I COMPLETELY forgot about that population of hybrid tortoises. As someone who has done a lot of herpetology travel in difficult terrain - your experience really lends weight to your discussion in this video. Love this topic :) I'm not gonna lie, I'd love to see a resurrected tortoise. They would be so chill about it, too. (A little bit Kung Fu Panda 3).

Great video Adam! Really enjoyed this one. Some of these guys I’ve never heard of before I don’t think. I do like the Reunion Giant Tortoise though. You’ve talked about it before on the channel. From what I’ve read, it was bigger the Aldabra & Galapagos Tortoises.

Also I was wondering if you’re going to add more to your Informal History channel? I was really enjoying that channel and you had covered some interesting topics.

Much love from Ontario, Canada 🇨🇦.

If Jurassic Park taught us anything, a de-extincted tortoise would end up just being a Blastoise. Wait. Is this how we get Pokémon? 😂😂😂

Except this new thing isn't even a Dire wolf. It is gorgeous but as a biochem major, this is just a new hybrid species, not a de-extinction. It's not even an argument to have as this is just pure fact.

First off; 15 gene edits does not a dire wolf make.
Second off; due to cloning methods not working for reptiles. You can not currently de-extinct reptiles.

is a leopard gecko, crested gecko, ball python, or corn snake cheaper to care for, set up, and buy and also good for beginners because this is my first animal.
