Realizing that they needed a much lighter gun after testing is like asking for a medium weight fighter after testing a heavy weight one. This is a category level change, not a fault or feature gap uncovered during testing. Indian Army needs to clear the order for 307 guns & set the lighter weight target for ATAG’s next release cycle. Govt needs to make Indian Army accountable to avoid such unfair practices.

What actually going on in my mind is, it's feeling similar to that of Tapas. Piston engines should be used, but performance should have to be like Turbo prop. But we have to hope that the lighter version will also give closer performance. But the bigger question is, when Indian army is going to test ATAGS on the MARS?

Do not worry, during trials the gun must have a flight altitude of at least 30000 ft and can fly at a minimum speed of Mach 2 besides having a torpedo firing capability..

Ok. So, all these years while the ATAGS was being developed the Army did not realise that a towed lighter gun was better? It was only when the ATAGS was primed to receive orders, the Army came up with this new requirement. Was it a lapse of mind or intentional to delay the procurement?
