Every time I see a title like that I think "Nah, he's exaggerating."

And I'm always absolutely correct. That lock was open in way under two seconds.

Could you provide a list of convenience stores and gas stations where you've seen this, for research purposes.

My favorite part of these videos is how you point to the only thing in frame to make sure people know what you're talking about.

years ago when i worked at taco bell we had something similar
I used to open it with a plastic straw to make change for larger bills

It's not a cash box... it's a storage box for Master Locks.... makes it harder to rake Master Locks by adding a layer of impressioning... very meta.

Bad lock: *exists*
LPL: _"I'm boutta end this man's whole career"_

Reminds me of the lock you picked with the rake faster than it was to use the key normally.

The thing is, these really don't need to be all that secure. They are usually used as an overflow, so as to keep the amount of cash in the register low to minimize loss in the event of a robbery. They will be sort of hidden behind the counter and emptied regularly. No money will stay in the box at night for instance, which is when someone might try to pick it. If we're talking about an armed robbery, time is usually a factor for the thief, and trying to pick the box, which might not contain any money at all, will only lead to a larger chance of being caught. They will usually get whatever is in the register and haul ass out of there, not fiddle with locks they're probably not competent enough to open. It might not be secure, but it's surely secure enough that in most instances it does exactly what is needed and keeps the cash safe.

As soon as I saw the tubular core I knew where this was going, and I kinda thought he'd just pen tube it. At least you don't need to worry about losing the key.

“Picked in 2 seconds” and this is the LPL being modest

I’m about to buy a safe in a few months, so you reviewing safes is actually really convenient for me

Thanks for getting my husband addicted to his new lockpicking hobby. I can't even get him to answer a simple question because he's tuning everything out except the pins he's listening for.

This shows why it is incredibly important to understand the strengths and weaknesses of a safe before putting it in service to protect your valuables. This safe is designed for one very specific purpose. That is so the cashier can honestly say to a robber that they do not have access to any cash beyond the change for a $20 bill which is in the drawer. As long as the owner maintains a strict policy of keeping the key as far from the cash register as possible (cashier not allowed to hold the key) this provides a degree of protection. This safe is NOT even remotely appropriate for storing money or valuables in an unattended location - especially when the business is closed for the night. This safe would also be a poor choice if there were serious questions about the honesty of the employees. I agree that upgrading the lock is a good idea. But, overall the safe is built correctly for its intended purpose. Keep in mind that this is an economy model which probably costs less than $50. High security drop safes can go into the thousands of dollars if you need that kind of protection.

I will never pick a lock in my life. In fact, owning a lockpicking set is illegal in my state. I just love listening to you talk about and pick locks! I also like learning about how the appearance of locks is almost meaningless. From non-hardened metal, to rakeable and shimable locks I would have never guessed how sloppy consumer products can be.

i love how you didnt turn this into a 10 minute vid, never change:)

Love these videos. Short, and concise.
If an LPL video runs more than about 3 minutes you know he's found a decent lock!

Jeez! I would rather use a Master Lock to keep my Carrots safe.

I'm pretty sure most locks unlock themselves automatically when LPL just points his finger at them.

This is my 1st lock that brought me to being a sub to your channel. I still haven’t opened it but I will return to it after another binge watching session. I do wish you did it the hard way that takes 3 more seconds. Thanks for sharing your hobby and always look forward to your next video

The impressioning tool is basically a key by itself !
