BYD Cars has been launching one model after another in the Philippine market, but this could be its most launch for 2024: the BYD Seagull, a fully-electric hatchback that has a price below P1 million.

You can think of the Seagull as the Dolphin’s Gen Z little brother. There is one variant available, the GLX, which is available at an introductory price of P898,000. Some key details: It’s powered by a single electric motor that generates 74hp and 135Nm, comes with a 30kWh BYD blade battery that provides range of up to 300km, and is equipped with tech features like a rotating touchscreen, Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the DiPilot driver aids. For worry-free EV ownership, BYD Cars Philippines is offering a six-year or 150,000km (whichever comes first) vehicle warranty, an eight-year battery or 150,000km warranty, and an eight-year or 150,000km motor warranty.

The question is, can the Seagull deliver on its promise of being an ideal entry point to the world of electrification? We take it on a quick preview drive to find out. Click play on the video above for our first impressions, and let us know your thoughts in the comments.

Great review. Music is louder than your own voice.

Guys, no hate, but your music is way too loud. Do you guys need a video editor?

BYD Seagull's ground clearance is 120mm (Toyota Wigo is 160mm). Considering barangay roads, squatter's areas, and subdivisions are fond of speed bumps/humps plus PH's flood-prone streets, the battery is in constant danger of getting damaged.

This is not made for PH's roads.

Many Filipinos are often fascinated by vehicles produced by Chinese car manufacturers, and we tend to purchase them even when they come with a high price tag. However, before buying cars from China, it is important to check their original prices in their country of origin. If these cars are sold at a low price in China but are priced much higher in the Philippines, we should think twice before making a purchase.

We often assume that the durability and quality of a car are directly related to its price. However, it's crucial to remember that if a car's original price in China is low, it may indicate that the vehicle is not built to last, even if it carries a high price here. Ultimately, buyers risk losing out in two ways: first, by overpaying, and second, by ending up with a vehicle that lacks durability.

Mukhang minadali nyo i-release yung video. Hindi na preview ng maayos. Lakas ng scoring kaysa sa boses ni Sir Anton, napaka mellow pa naman nya mag present

Solar panel on the roof is much more better, no need to recharge.

Did your video editor quit? This isn’t usual TG production quality and unacceptable in 2024.

Hi, the Seagull is a great car however, considering the limited charging infrastructure in much of the Philippines, it would have been better if there was the option for the 38.88 kWh battery. I would have bought one of these BYD Seagull's last week, if there was the larger battery option.
