The death toll among followers of a Kenyan cult who believed they would go to heaven if they starved themselves has risen to 90.

The number of people who died has been steadily rising as authorities continue to carry out exhumations of mass graves found in an 800 acre area of forest near the coastal town of Malindi.

Fifteen members of the Good News International Church were rescued from the forest last week.

“The nature of psychological compulsion is such that those who act under constraint remain under the impression that they are acting on their own initiative. The victim of mind-manipulation does not know that he is a victim. To him the walls of his prison are invisible, and he believes himself to be free. That he is not free is apparent only to other people. His servitude is strictly objective.” (Aldous Huxley ~ Brave New World)

Avery painful experience to those who suffered to death in this manner. The poor children😢 The government of Kenya should consider checking if the recovered bodies have all their organs. It might be an illegal business.

This is sad. When will we people stop being misled by pastors. God gives us His laws which are simple, easy to follow and full of life but we refuse. Pastors give us their laws which are ungodly, hard to comply with and which lead to death and we without hesitation follow those laws to our graves.
May their souls rest in peace

There has to be an investigation including postmortem reports. Finding dead bodies is part of a beginning!

This reminds me of the Reverend Jim Jones and “The People’s Temple Church.”

How do you know if you are in a cult? The answer is always “yes”

The untold suffering they endured is horrific. They were so misguided. May they rest in the peace, mercy and love of God. Those who denied them food, tortured them and deprived them of their freedom to leave thus taking their very lives from them must be held accountable.

It's so so sad. Most of us "Christians" don't really understand what Jesus is teaching us. The wisdom behind fasting is training ourselves to have control over our bodies. Being able to decide when we will eat food, the most basic need of our body, gives us "power" to say no to the desires of our flesh, which is the most common cause of our problems. Inability to restrain the wants for food leads to greed and obesity, and to sickness; failing to control sexual desires may lead to adultery and broken homes. But it shouldn't be overdone. God doesn't take pleasure in seeing us suffer. For if God wants us to feed the poor, why would He wants us to be hungry? It's for our benefits if we will have discipline, like the soldiers and athletes who are able to do things beyond what we can ordinarily do.

This pastor bought 800ha of land(rural area), and he had small houses for fasting followers, so some followers wanted to leave but pastor had goons on his land to kill whoever leaves.so many were murdered.

This was a wake up call to Kenyans and the government. This is not the only pastor doing this in Kenya they get arrested and released a few days later. The publics outcry fall on deaf ears until such incidences happen smh
