Morrison government focused on 'rolling each other': Albanese

Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese says the Morrison government has shown how “self-indulgent” it is after Michael McCormack was rolled as leader of the Nationals.

Barnaby Joyce defeated incumbent leader and Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack in a secret ballot on Monday after his long-time ally Senator Matt Canavan called for a spill motion.

Mr Albanese said the Morrison government had two priorities this year; the vaccine rollout and fixing hotel quarantine.

“Instead of rolling out the vaccine to the Australian people, they’ve just concentrated on rolling each other,” he told reporters at Parliament House on Monday.

Mr Albanese said the “rolling” of Mr McCormack represents the sixth combination of prime minister and deputy and was a clear “vote of no confidence” in this government.

“The fact is, if you want to end this circus, it’s time to end this government,” he said.
