Exposed - CGC is Damaging Comics and Lying About It

Note: This video shows a comic bent by CGC. I have also cracked dozens of slabs recently and found the same result, yet CGC claims to not be damaging books. It is unclear what their motive is for lying about the issue, but they are likely doing serious damage to their brand by not owning up to it and fixing the problem.

Please reach out to CGC and let them know about your experiences with bent/damaged comics. Hopefully, they won't ignore us or the evidence forever.

Also, I had to re-upload this video, the original version came out with bad quality.

I sometimes sell the books featured on this channel! Here is the link to my shortboxed inventory:

Here is the Amazon link to KaptainMyke's books, which I used to learn how to clean and press comics:

Happy collecting!

Not only are we having issues with the quality of our books, but it almost seems like the grading system has catered to certain personalities. I’ve seen more 9.9’s and 10’s than I would ever care to see in my lifetime through CGC. They are inflating the value of our hobby and not in a good way.

Yesterday I took the auto renew off my CGC account that expires in January.

I’m excited to see all your videos with the books you’re gonna send to cbcs. I’m anxious to see if they’re grading matches up with your grading tool. Should be some interesting videos.

PSA can’t launch comic grading soon enough.

CGC's reply to all this was basically just waving this off. Awful.

Thank you for this video. This is what I'm seeing in some of my books, but in those cases I do have bends and ticks on them that were for sure not there when I sent them in. =(

Maybe the heat and pressure from sealing the case is shrinking the inner well slightly?

i'm glad you mentioned that the 443+ numbers are when it seems to begin.

Awesome video, as always! Thank you for verifying that there is long-term impact to the books in this state. I stopped sending books to CGC for grading when this started, and have stopped buying any CGC graded books until this is fixed. I know that stance will impact sellers, but sellers are the ones that need to push back on CGC with force. An economic impact is what’s needed to get CGC to take this seriously.

On a lighter note, I sure hope that’s you singing the “no no no” song at the end of the video 😂

This is a great video. I’m genuinely scared I will damage my books trying to get them out these inner wells. You handled it like a pro. 👏

I love your videos. I find you to be fair and objective when discussing issues. You don’t make things overly dramatic for views. You provide great information on all videos and I am very happy to have you as a part of the community. I wish there were more like you on YouTube. Keep it up!

I sent them pictures of 9.8s with bent wells and new ticks and waves - asked to speak to a manager too. Haven’t heard back from them in weeks now even though they asked me to send pictures. Sent the books back (24) and then after they were revived customer service said they are still waiting for direction on what I should do with the damaged books…ummm, you already have them and the photos!!! They are sitting on 60 of my books now. Some 20+ reholder from scratched cases just from one previous submission sitting for maybe almost a month now. Scratch rate of new slabs is getting worse with new shipping method. They have to be hemorrhaging money with so many scratched case returns! Crazy how they can’t figure out how to ship books or make slabs that don’t scratch with such a high damage rate. Incompetence

I guarantee all 50th Wolverine anniversary signatures encapsulated comics are curved. Mine looks horrible and am considering to crack it out and just save the tag and store it in top loader until this is all figured out!

Thanks for helping bring this out, my hulk 181 I sub’d for the wolvie 50th came back looking like trash even after a press! Somehow also a higher grade, from 5.5 to 60… I caught wind of this and I got the “within tolerance” BS runaround... I just asked to press it again, reholder it. On principle, I’m done with cgc. I’ve literally traded graded books out for Raws I think are better and thought I would regret it. Nope, haven’t one bit. I’m not saying I Wouldn’t ever buy a cgc book, but Id check the date of grading and the book now, and I buy THE book not the grade, I have ZERO concern for cgc or their validation anymore.

I have to tell you you are very talented with these books and for you to crack one of yours open to prove a point is very admirable thank you for exposing the sloppy work of cgc

According to CGC's own grading guide, a book with a warp has a maximum grade of 9.6, so all those 9.8s with warped inner wells are actually 9.6 at best in their current condition.

Could you please conduct two tests to explore the weather as a cause? Try placing the bent inner well in the sun and in the refrigerator to see if it becomes more or less bent with exposure to heat, cold, or humidity.

Great video! Let us know if you decide to ship to CBCS. If you do and get great results it might renew my interest in getting books graded. As of now I am very discouraged after getting my books damaged.
