I love temple grandon she is probably the most underrated unrecognized female role model especially for children and adults with autism because she created a more humane cattle industry that we still use to this day

I am just now learning Temple's story and life. How the hell did I miss this when her story first came out?! AMAZING human being.

I'm about to start teaching elementary aged special needs kids next week and I love listening to Dr Grandin for her tidbits of wisdom that might help me ❤

I dare say the greatest moment of the professional part of my teaching career was when I was privileged to go hear Dr. Grandin speak. I even ran into her ahead of time in the book store for a little casual chatting. Amazing woman!

Same, and even more true, about the parents. We need to understand where, when, how to push them.

I totally agree! This is why I push my oldest daughter whom has autism to reach new goals and obtain new skills because I know she can do it, it may take longer sometimes but she will get there and sometimes excel and exceed her peers.

Even though I never really liked being touched, I would say my best teachers are the ones that taped me on the shoulder or the top of the head to get my attention when I’m not paying attention in class
Find a physical correction with no need to apologize helps me re engage

But if the teacher asked me to pay attention, I apologize and then it breaks the lesson and I feel bad and don’t absorb any of the information because I just sit there feeling bad about not paying attention

Temple!! The airplane tails. What if we make just the tail with little " windows' into the engine ? I couldn't stop thinking about that, and thank you, I'll add it to my own list of projects. Lol You're so right. My sensory problem would go haywire. I think in pictures, too. Filmographic memory. I'm still learning all about the crazy things I can do. Taught myself to read from Sesame Street. Lol First memory 9mo. Didn't think in words yet. Shapes and colors. I only just found out I'm autistic. You've been a hero of mine before and after I found out. Since I saw your movie, I've kinda known, but stereotypes are hard to overcome. Anyway love you, you've really had an impact on my life!

Temple, I worry that we dont have teachers that care.

Great take! Not very common perspective today either. You’ll hear teachers and professor alike proudly say “I’m very fair, I treat all students the same”. That approach is not of a teacher but simple evaluator.

Shes right. If you grabbed my step son's chin he'd bite 😂 but if you promise him a reward, he will do his school work which he is capable of. And he hates being social so none of those types of experiences are appealing to him really. I want to show him the movie about Temple.

I get this because sometimes you gotta grab the attention for a minute

My 7th grade teacher used to sit on the laps of some of the kids. That seemed to work for me--other kids went into sensory overload.

I needed forced eye contact to listen to another person at one time when I was young.
