It's Ok to deduce that an unknown planet may be pulling on Mercury. The problem is naming an assumed planet without tangible proof.

Consider mercury is the size of our moon. Venus is the size of the Earth. It seems so obvious to me that mercury was once the moon of Venus and it fell away into the sun. This explains Mercury’s oblong orbit and also gives an explanation of why Venus’s rotation is all messed up.
