You mentioned that the Vibratone is all mids so you're running it in stereo with a separate amp for the lows and highs. The rub against an unmodulated signal is part of the magic, just like a chorus pedal is a vibrato signal mixed with a dry one. Even if the leslie cab was full frequency, you'd want another fixed speaker to go with it.

"Everything is a little bit broken all the time." My lord that hit me in the feels. I spent several years as a service advisor at motorcycle and power equipment repair shops, and never figured out how to say that so succinctly.

I've been pining for one of these. Sounds lovely, and Ballad of El Goodo is my go to 'trying out a Leslie' song.

Eric. That cab is soo cool. 20 years ago I got a Leslie cab from a yard sale. I’m an electrician & I wired up a variable speed control on a pedal. Best sound in the room ever. But obviously it’s not practical to bring extra cabs and pedals and power cables to gigs. I have owned 5 different “Leslie” pedals over the years. Best compromise I’ve had is the Fender Pinwheel pedal running into 2 combos positioned 2 foot apart and angled back at you in the middle. It can ramp up, down & brake with the foot switches. Also can expression pedal but honestly the foot switches once set up at the right speeds are more than enough control to sound “real”. Favorite effect ever. You can also hit the brake and have a very lush chorus. Not much I can say other than wow. I’m ok with things being a little bit broken. Words to live by!!

We can see the excitement and joy it brings you from the expressions on your face throughout the whole video. Always a Class-Act Eric! New inspiration. I expect there will be many more post it notes made with ideas, Happy Friday!

Love the Big Star at the beginning. So sad I missed them in Carrboro last month.

That sounded great through headphones.
There's plenty of guitar channels on youtubes but your channel along with Chris Buck and Colin on Guitaristas always make me want to play and improve.
I'm just getting into your caged course and its already changing the way I think about and play guitar.
Thanks, brother.

4:07: "It would be stupid not to play some Pink Floyd with this setup." That's what I was thinking from the opening note! And yeah, even beamed through cyberspace to arrive on my little screen, the sound is a lot bigger and fuller and cooler than my phaser pedal. Can't imagine ever owning one of these, but then I'm used to living vicariously through you! I hope you recover good and quick from The Virus.

"Everything is always a little bit broken, and that’s OK." - Stoic mate. Stoic.

I randomly ended up with a Vibratone about 8 years ago. Due to the baffle’s rotation and the design of the cab, I describe it as basically throwing sound around the room. So it is pretty amazing in that sense. It sounds to me like what chorus pedals copied. It sounds like a 3 D chorus on low speed. On high speed it sounds like “Cold Shot” - the solo. Mine has a nice late ‘60s Jensen 10” speaker in it. You kind of alluded to it - it has a crossover device that sends the mids to the Vibratone, and everything else to the amp’s speakers. Kind of weird. Mine came with a SF Twin Reverb that had factory gold foil JBLs. Somebody in HS around ‘70 got a nice rig, and I ended up with it 45 years later.

I am glad you are back and recovering Eric. Last Friday was strange, waiting for your upload and finally realising that it won‘t happen.

Eric, with cover off you can determine if out of balance noise is coming from misappropriated weight distribution ; ie like balancing a car or bike tire, or out of round, by holding a stationary object, like a pencil; on a firm stand(stack of books) near the outer edge. You will also be able to determine if the wobble is horizontal or vertical or both. If it rolls true then it may likely be a worn out bearing or shaft race, eyeball the center hub for wear and slop). Being old and basically styrofoam it could be combination of all. But it is doable to rebalance. Or it could be drive gear at motor. That may be a deeper dive. Peace and be well. Those tones are good medicine.
