Apples, pears and plums! I got so many this year, I freeze dried, and canned pie filling, most of them! Hard work, but worth the effort.

I grew up in the 60s & we would pick apples wrap them in newspaper & store them in the basement frig Baked apples with butter ❤

I agree. There are so many ways to keep them from many cultures where no electricity is needed. They smell great too.

I read a book from the 1800's once that explained that farmers use to "interview" guys in the fall harvest for the next year. If the picked an apple by the stem they were a good candidate. They would hang the apples by the steam in their root cellar. If one went bad it didn't spoil the entire barrel.

Man I just ate an apple sauce from ginger gold apple wow! I recommend that it is not too wet and well flavor out of this world!! We made our own apple sauce. More chunkier nut mush!

Ordered my first fruit trees this year, i got a fig tree, meiwa kumquat and brown select satsuma from stan mckenzie. Ill have to look for some spots to plant apple trees for next year

I grew up in Seattle and surrounding areas. In all the older properties and vacant lots there were always fruit trees. As a kid in spring and fall there was always berries, apples, cherries, plums and pears. All planted by our forefathers probably during depression and post war times. They're all gone now except for the stragglers in back alley ways.

You can make cider, cider vinegar, and hard cider. The last two can be stored for a long time when properly prepared.
