SuperSPEED Marble Sorting pt. 1
•••
This is the first prototype for a much larger machine I’m building. The first step was to find a way to quickly determine the colour of a marble. Next up, sorting it!

As a certified Contraption Expert, I'm sorry to say that this is not actually a contraption. I believe it would be classified as a gizmo, but you would need to consult a Gizmo Expert to confirm

The sorting: Purple — same box as before, Blue — same again, Yellow — let's put it in the box.

I swear this is that memory thing from inside out

Be warned! Marble machines has had the tendency to make creators on YouTube lose their marbles many a times before! 😁

"where does the purple marble go? That's right, it goes in the square hole."

My brother and I built a lego skittles sorter about 10 years ago. All we needed was an IR sensor, pc and code to record the wavelength of different coloured skittles.

We set limits on the range of wavelengths for a particular colour given the slight variation of reflections from the disk shaped skittles. The IR sensor was connected to a small arduino board and operated the mechanism to push skittles into different hoppers.

Worked like a charm ✨️

Pointless, but fun none the less

This looks very useful for Ivan Miranda's marble clock

What a genius invention and has so many applications for the world. Great job dude!

I built a sensor that sorted coins. Coins fall through a chute and there is literally couple milliseconds to recognise the coin and switch the direction of the falling coin, all without ever interrupting the fall.
The sensor does not have any camera. It just creates a bit of EM field and measures how the coin affects the field (how much and for how long).

I see this invention changing humanity forever

I bet there's a faster way... but not a simple one. Great design! Very fast and very simple... peak engineering! Cool stuff.

Add three small motors with individual flaps on the end of the rotors. Sort the four colors by inputs of color sensing you got going, obviously 4 trays to catch the marbles, done.

I think when it comes to sorting a lot of marbles throughput and accuracy is more important than speed.

A large conveyor with lifting arms can move marbles to a sensor to track what color they are at the top or point of release while keeping them steady.

Also multiple conveyors can be driven with one motor, making putting them in series cheap and affordable.

That’s cool that sensors can print text on your computer like detected purple color

U should make a marble colour sorter storage that would be a good idea
