Frank Sinatra If You Go Away with lyrics

"If You Go Away" is an adaptation of the 1959 Jacques Brel song "Ne me quitte pas" with English lyrics by Rod McKuen. Created as part of a larger project to translate Brel's work, "If You Go Away" is considered a pop standard and has been recorded by many artists, including Greta Keller, for whom some say McKuen wrote the lyrics...

1969: Frank Sinatra released a version on his album My Way with Violetta Villas

When someone finally goes away, phisically, they previously left in his/her heart and mind.

Genius, one of the giants of outstanding music and interpretation, few performers these days can move you to sense of the lyrics and make you part of the magic of the song and music. R.I.P. Mr. Sinatra another outstanding Gemini. ❤

This is very interesting, powerful and well interpreted, yet... this is not the same song as "Ne me quitte pas" by Jacques Brel. Indeed, the spirit is not the same : here, he tries to refrain the girl (or man) from leaving like we can heard when he says "If you go away, I'll understand", like if they were discussing and she were still there. In Jacques Brel's version, she is already gone. He's in the denial part of a kind of mourning. It is already lost for him. Well, the way I see it of course, she is already gone for Brel. It's a step for him before a great desillusion. He can't just accept her leaving him, and he's ready to do anything, but to me, it is too late for him. This way, Brel's version is a lot more sader, and that is why I would prefer it to this one above.

I love Sinatra's songs. However nobody sings this particular song as good as Damita Jo.   She'll give you goose bumps.
