I am stunned you never mention his identity as a gay man. So much of his work was centered around his activism as a gay man. ALSO important to note the differences between HIV & AIDS. Haring was diagnosed with HIV and then a year later was diagnosed with AIDS. They are different diagnoses, but they do go hand-in-hand: HIV is a virus that can lead to a condition called AIDS, also known as stage 3 HIV. These are important points to highlight ESPECIALLY given that this was so importnat in his artwork! POSE (tv show) does an excellent job explaining the AIDS epidemic in the 1980s and is great background to learn as a teacher.
