Actually, an infinite amount would be counted as "inf" which I'm pretty sure means it passed the integer limit and the number would be too high to process anything above that. And that could possibly break the game. (Well not like shutting down any servers but something could go wrong. An example of this is that if you set your Roblox character's humanoid WalkSpeed value to tonumber("inf") with a script it would put your character in a glitchy state. Something like:

repeat wait()
if script.Parent.Humanoid ~= nil then
= tonumber("inf")
end
until false

in StarterPlayer > StarterCharacterScripts should show this off.)
So unless that passed the integer limit you did not hit the inf value and that number is not infinite, it's just big.

I am not the best at Lua and computer science so don't quote me on this. I have only been scripting on Roblox for a bit over a year and I'm not even 13 yet.

EDIT: the limit is 9.2 quintillion that's why everyone at the top of the leaderboard has 9.2 quintillion
