How To Remove Hyperlinks from Microsoft Word Documents

MS Word automatically adds hyperlinks to documents when you enter, or copy and paste, URLs. Then you can open the web pages in browser by holding the Ctrl key and clicking the links. While they might be handy website shortcuts in some documents, not everybody needs URL links. For example, it’s a little pointless including hyperlinks in printed pages, isn’t it? This is how MS Word users can remove document links to convert URLs to plain text.

First, you can remove selected hyperlinks with Word’s context menu options. Select a link in a document with the cursor. Then you can right-click the link to open the context menu in the shot below. Select the Remove Hyperlink option there to convert the URL to plain text.

What might be useful for some is teaching them how to format their document so they never have to worry about it in the first place by going into options and removing the automatic formatting that causes it. This is done by navigating (File -> Options -> Proofing) to the 'AutoCorrect Options' menu - > 'AutoFormat As you Type' tab -> clearing the 'Internet and network paths with hyperlinks' setting. This can be very helpful for doctoral researchers and PhD students. I learned this feature when I had points taken off my papers and online discussion forums for having them. Rather than having to click dozens of reference links and remove them, I just changed the settings so that my document never created them to begin with (can save hours over the course of time).

Can I delete a link underline which I'm not able to select but it still is showing on a document and working as hyperlink

Most people know how to remove a hyperlink in text as the 'remove hyperlink' comes up easily with a right click. The main problem I find is when they're on pictures. You can't just address hyperlinks for texts, that's only the half of it. Mostly it works on pictures, too (except can't remove on multiple pictures at same time, like you can on all text) but sometimes menu with 'remove hyperlink' won't come up. If I can't remove it that way, I can 'copy' the picture then 'paste' it somewhere else making sure to select 'picture' on the paste options, which leaves the hyperlink behind. Occasionally however, this doesn't work, either. I've seen on the 'net' that this may not be a hyperlink but how do you tell and if so, how do you remove it. It isn't visible until you wave the cursor over it & writing in it is just like a hyperlink.
