In a game full of beautiful landscapes, magic, and fantasy elements, the story for the region of Natlan stands out as a good portrayal of human resilience, and the theme of war leading to countless deaths.

In this video, I want to talk about how the latest version of Genshin Impact has delved into the themes of war and human resilience, making it a profound and unsettling message as well as a step to the worldbuilding of Teyvat.

The one thing I really liked about that segment was the gradual degrading of intel you receive about the status of everyone else.

At first you get up to date information about what everyone is doing, but then the intel gatherers start dying off and there's no update on certain situations and it just gets marked with "Situation unknown". By the end you just don't know what's going on anymore, the final piece of intel comes from a dead person and you don't even know how up to date that info is.

I actually cried so much when I saw the Scions of Canopy scape during that hot air baloon ride then I let out the biggest scream and jumped when I saw Toto on the ground (thank goodness he is just resting)

this Archon Quest is so good it's giving me depression and despair

I really felt when Traveler said "Paimon, this is not disaster, this is war!". I felt that eerie feeling of being in a war zone.

Natlan is at war now, but soon this is gonna be the entirety of Teyvat. I don't think I'm ready for that.

This was by far my favorite main quest. For the first time the game really makes you feel like your choices have consequences, and the stakes of the conflict were far more tangible despite technically being on a relatively similar scale as previous events, by simply showing you how many people you fail to save.
That scene of corpses strewn about the Scions of the Canopy was genuinely heartbreaking, especially when your balloon just flies past knowing that it's too late to save anyone. 😭😭

One thing I noticed after comparing the storytelling of Natlan AQ and Inazuma AQ, other than how horrible the pacing, is the focus in each part of the story. IIRC, the whole Inazuma's AQ only centered around the MC, which is a huge problem when there're a lot of things moving outside of MC's perspective (Some of them were afterward in character SQ or events like Itto music event.), while in Natlan AQ, we get a lot perspective from quite a number of characters like seeing Kachina growing through the tournament in act 1, Chasca & Chuychu sneaking into the Fatui camp, Mavuika reminding of the past with people she knew etc. this makes us see the whole picture of how the story goes.

* I think this Inazuma AQ problem stem from hyv trying to make the MC self insert character and it looks like they dropped this plan around Sumeru when we saw the conversation between Nahida and Dottore and confirmed that they aren't self insert in the Bedtime story.

omg i felt that part at the end about using your best built characters. Usually for story stuff I try to use characters that fit into the story somehow or the traveler but after it started to get bad I swapped to all my mains cuz I wanted to try and win the fights as fast as I could!

That Quote from traveler is my favourite quote from the archo quest, like it just hits hard in that situation and starts nailing the coffin

Another oart was the segment where you save the mother and the daughter, it's not visible that clear but when the Fatus knew they couldn't protect them they hid the two and tried gight them off but died. But that's not thebworst part. The Cryo Skirmisher who's dead body Paimon tried to wake up and made her cry was actually blocking the entrance underneath the platform where the mother and daughter were hiding.

And of course there was the baby Yumkasaurus being the sole survivor, that one was just plain cruel.

And Chuychi was the last nail in the coffin 😢😭😭

Rhis is definitely going to be in a league of its own as far as Archon quests go

This is my kind of video, i was thinking the same. I love studying the elements of storytelling and themes. That quest was so good i want to play it all over again but having to live with the outcome of the war and my choices are also part of the story experience.

The abyss twin experienced the same tragedy but in their case they lost the war.

That was the first and only time I noticed my hubris crumble when the "protagonist halo" and "we will get through like we always did" just... Didn't happen. The Traveler - us - were useless in the grand scheme of things. Most of us saved more or less people, but the abyss corruption was engulfing everything and I'm pretty sure everyone felt that looming dread of "... I can't save them... What's wrong...?"

And at that moment, I noticed how invested I really was in the quest. I was tired from doing it in one go, but refused to stop, refused to let go.

When nothing was working and things were getting worse and worse and worse I felt so weird. And just then I noticed how bold and confident I was as the Traveller and how... That just wasn't enough.

I didn't see nor talk to many npcs, but my overall death record wan't so horrendous. However... I was jumping from one point to another in absolute haste to help as many as I could.
And the deaths kept increasing.

Such a well done ending quest. I was a little shaken and that was brilliant!

I was pissed off when Teppei died and ready to raze that Fatui factory to the ground, with or without the resistance's help. I was enraged when I saw the death toll keep climbing no matter what I did. Then I saw a video someone did talking about how the Abyss was cognizant enough to fight smart and I snapped. When we get down to the Abyss in 5.3, I'm gonna make their blood flow like a river and their corpses pile up like a mountain.

One of the best videos on genshin I have watched to date, I feel like these videos on the comprehension of genshin provide insight that people tend to easily overlook due to wanting just 'content' or not fully delving into the deeper meaning and purpose of the stories being told.

There is always something to be learnt from what the writers are telling in most stories in genshin and tbf all hoyoverse games.

Would love to see more video of the sort!

Natlan being cancelled went trending on twitter and had VAs clocking mihoyo causing some to be fired, the character designs being deemed the most underwhelming of any nation by majority of the player base, to then the people in Natlan being slaughtered by the abyss in a huge battle… Natlan is really going through it. I guess we should’ve taken it being dubbed the “Nation of War” way more seriously 😭

Would you be interested in breaking down the timeline of the whole immersive storytelling part of the AQ? There's a lot of information flying around on the internet so I think a well put together, nicely and cleanly edited Klementime production would be a wonderfull and engaging watch. Just a suggestion/suit :)

Phenomenal video - even if you just put a lot of thoughts and emotions to paper I think you expressed a lot of what we all felt. I just finished this quest and had to stop to recollect myself afterwards. One thing I realized after watching this - and I'm curious to see how they handle it - is the Traveler's feelings about the sibling. Maybe I'm oversimplifying but every time I'm forced to witness the horrors of the abyss I feel less and less like I'll ever sympathize with the Abyss Sibling. They seem almost complicit, somehow. Nothing could ever be worth siding or promoting something that does...this. Makes you wonder what that reunion will be like, in the end.

Natlan gave us taste of what’s coming. We get Snezhnaya next year so I’m assuming the battles are going to be much brutal as the patches come because we’re close to the end of Part 1 of Genshin
