The American Airlines (AA106) missed the taxiway to runway 4L to be next to takeoff after Delta Airlines (DL1943) and was headed to runway 31L, the wrong runway. The American Airlines pilot and copilot should have known what the active takeoff runway was. With moving map navigation and even with an ordinary compass both pilots would have seen they were heading in the wrong direction. Airline pilots are required to have a pre-takeoff briefing and both have to agree on which runway is in active use from the broadcast digital Automatic Terminal Information Service (ATIS) and monitor the given taxi instructions on their moving map navigation. There is no single person's mistake, it had to be multiple failures in procedures to have been broken by both pilots for the potential of a major accident. It is the reason for two airline pilots to verify each other's action in the cockpit.

Distraction in cockpit, or incompetence in the tower. I'm sure they already figured it out. Just awaiting the update.

I'm so happy about timely cancellation of the takeoff, it would have been disastrous otherwise 😣😓 and the delta pilot's sigh in relief

I have flown many times and every time the plane land or take off in the air a sigh of relief comes over me. I always say a prayer to cover everyone involved in the air traffic but I have never ever thought of this scenario

Praise report
Thank you Lord and those trained professionals who protected the passengers.

God is moving people

Near death experiences are here to show us something

The NTSB also needs to investigate the actions of the ground controller that was suppose to monitor the movements of all planes and vehicles on the ground up to the runway using ground radar. The tower at JFK, the lower glass observation room is for the ground controller to visually see the areas from the gate and the taxiways up to the runways. The departure controller luckily looked out from the his glass observation room higher up to see the runway incursion of the American Airlines (AA106).

The two must dangerous parts of flying are the passengers and the taxing of the aircraft on the ground.

Have we crossed the point of no return in terms of damaging the planet? There is no such point. We need to trust that our thought, which is our greatest quality, can change nature. We only need to understand the direction to which we should aim our thoughts. What should we think about? What condition or state should we aspire to and ask for?
In order to save our planet, we should think about positive human connections. That is, how can we, in our connections, keep nature safe? How can we all together protect our world? If we truly wish to better our planet, then we should see people holding a concern for how to positively connect everywhere that we look.
It has nothing to do with recycling or other activities that we commonly associate with as being sustainable. If we come closer to and consider each other, that we will reach an entirely organic, perfectly connected and round state, then the negative forces will disappear from the world.
We need to understand that if we start thinking better about each other, then the planet will recover from all harm, because our thoughts are the strongest force in nature. Likewise, our negative thoughts about each other are entirely to blame for damaging the planet. That is why the more we recycle and invest in energies and activities that we commonly think of as being sustainable, the worse our planet becomes. Nothing will work to benefit us until we reach a state where our attitude changes toward each other for the better to protect and improve our planet.
