I grind down a little from the tack to make it more thin if welding up. The tie ins are one of the most common failure points on xray

stupid question but I'm just learning how to weld. how do you get the pipe beveled like that is it a machine that does it? I can't imagine doing Everyone by hand with a grinder

All the construction jobs that I've been on in the last 29 years, pipe welders always put a tig rod on the pipe to maintain the gap.

How come you didn’t use a square on the pice to make sure it was strait after you put the wedge in. I was taught to never trust the gap when adding a pice or fitting up the next length.
