Armor of God Pt 1: The Battle is Real is the first episode in our brand-new teaching series on spiritual warfare. In this episode, Walking The Text founder Brad Gray unpacks Paul’s famous words about the armor of God in Ephesians 6. As we’ll see, Paul believes we’re engaged in a cosmic struggle with the forces of evil.

Unfortunately, most of us are oblivious to the fact that there’s more going on than meets the eye. We all have struggles: the constant fighting with your spouse, the inability to overcome a particular temptation or the gnawing sense that you don’t know what to do with your life. It can be so disempowering to feel stuck no matter how hard you’re trying.

But what if being stuck isn’t just about you? What if, in addition to your choices and efforts, there are cosmic forces standing in opposition to you? NT Wright suggests that when it comes to spiritual warfare, most of us either ignore the concept completely or over-indulge it as though it were the end-all, be-all of the spiritual life.

However, Paul strikes a balance between the two. He doesn’t want us to be naïve about evil. But he also wants us to take our human responsibility seriously. By the end of The Armor of God Pt 1: The Battle is Real, you’ll see that when we’re aware of and equipped for the battle at hand, we can respond effectively by standing firm against evil.
