Magic Lantern - Canon 70D Installation Guide (Mac)

Here is a guide on how to install Magic Lantern software on a Canon 70D. Note that I am not a computer programer or a software developer - just a fan of Magic Lantern software and a 70D owner. Hopefully this is helpful for people trying to install this on their 70D. I installed ML on my 70D using a Mac.

This is my first tutorial, so any tips would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hey everyone!! Just a heads-up that the installation process is now streamlined and extremely easy with this latest Alpha4b version.  It took me less than 2 minutes to complete the entire process.  All you need to do is download ML and put on the root of your SD and then update your firmware.  It will automatically make your card bootable.  You no longer need to go through the Macboot process.  Go check it out!

Thanks! Your instructions are so clear that my install went without a hiccup. Installed Version A on my 70D using a Windows XP notebook. Now, all that's left for me is figure out how to use ML. For example: I've turned on Focus Peaking, changed the color to red, tried it in LiveView but I see no effect. I've used ML's Focus Peaking on my 550D before so I know how it should look. Simon Toledo (not seeing a reply option to your comment), you can go back to the regular Canon menus by just pressing the Info button (to toggle between ML overlays and your normal Canon overlays) or the Menu button.  You can still insert a SD card with no ML on the card, but you will not be able to use ML with that card inside.

I can't decompress the .bin file one my Mac before I transfer to my SD card. Any ideas? The message I get says "Unable to expand "autoexec.bin". It is an unsupported format."

Now is the alpha4b ML version out (for the 70d) in the "installation guide" they say " download ML, drag alla the files in your camera SD directory, run the camera update frimware and read the screen instructions.." do I need to install eoscard too ? or simply follow this 4 steps given by magic lantern developers ?

tried that when it came out and successfully installed it. But it kept overheating the camera...removed the lantern completely and haven't had the trouble since. I would love to have the magic back but has the overheating issue resolved?

i download the alpha4 - - when i update. when go to start 1% i get a black screen and clean sensor...what i do?

Hi and thanks for this... I am in a dilemma, but seems tricky the serial you shown has 10 digits, mine got 12 digits. so obviously is bigger with 12, but mine still starts with a 0. still I am safe right? logic question, thanks

Question...Do I install ML files to all of my SD cards to be able to swap them and have ML Run?
In the future if I format card, do I follow same steps to put ML files on it?

So I've installed ML on to my 70D and updated the firmware and the camera is showing the message ENABLED BOOTDISK :) but after I got to MacBoot installed on the SD root I opened the the file and my iMac wouldn't allow to enter Java commands until I installed a JDK program. After I installed the JDK I was able to open the MacBoot setup and made all the necessary changes but when I loaded the SD card into my camera I'm am still not able to access the ML from my trash button. I can't figure it out, I unZipped everything so that's parts seems good but I am getting a error Message when I prepare card in MacBoot. Any ideas or tips to help? I feel like I might of missed something.

I've been looking into Magic Lantern and I'm thinking about downloading it, I have the 70D and my serial code number is 032021022721, so I'm pretty sure I can get it?

Thank you so much for this. Couldn't get "Enabled Bootdisk :)". But I see in the vid that you copied the unzipped AND zipped files onto the root of the SD card (3:06). Do you actually need the zipped files on the card?
