The best sounding Warbird - Grumman F7F Tigercat

The Grumman F7F Tigercat gets my vote for being the best sounding Warbird there is. Having listened to dozens of rare and amazing WWII and beyond legends, nothing beats the runaway freight train, earth shaking noise an F7F Tigercat makes when screaming directly overhead. Number two for the best sound? Focke-Wulf 190 powered by a BMW-801.

Hard to think of a better sounding plane, even harder to find one that is better looking.

Without question, the F7F is great sounding airplane. To me, most of the sound heard as the plane comes toward you is propeller and intake noise, until the plane passes, when you hear the buzz of the props quickly followed by the guttural roar of those 18 cylinder radials. V12 engined warbirds also sound great, with a refined engine sound, but radial engined warbirds just have that "hot rod" sound of muscle cars with big cams and open headers that I remember so fondly.

I had never heard d of this aircraft until, while searching for confirmation that the FW-190 had explosive canopy bolts (Haven't found any authoritative source for the bolts yet - oh, wait. I didn't review Wings of the Luftwaffe doc on the 190.), your video popped up in Google. I've never seen this aircraft in any WWII documentary, and I think I have 90% of the WWII documentaries in YouTube in one of my playlists. It's a pretty slick machine! Thank you for posting this! You're right! The sound is great. There is something very special about the sound of radial engines. I love to hear them. They're are so deep and throaty. Nothing matches two radials idling in their characteristic loping!

This F7F reminds me a bit of the Luftwaffe's attempt at a wooden fighter aircraft to match the De Havilland Mosquito. Very similar in appearance. BTW, the Germans made a few, but the factory that made the glue was bombed, destroying the glue and the formula and that was that! Ah, don't you love the smell of burning Nazi glue in the morning? Hahahaha!

This, the F4F-3, B-17, and the Dewoitine D.520 have always been my favorite aircraft. Thank you for the video ^-^

483 flew at our airshow at Sunderland, England in early 90s when based over here. Beautiful sexy plane, my favourite of American aircraft, and your spoilt for choice there❤❤.

de Havilland DH.103 Sea Hornet NF.21, which I may never hear, sadly.
Grumman's F7F Tigercat is a svelte lovely lady with two enormous jugs.

Ah, so it's the Stuka duve siren combined with this to create every cartoon plane noise ever.

Love a DC-3 and the old twin beech sounds as well.

This is no doubt a beautiful aircraft...I remember building a model of it back in the 60's when I was a kid. I never heard one flying until now and it is stunning. But I prefer the Mosquito both from its aesthetics as well as its sound. I don' t think you can beat the roar of those twin Merlins. Just my opinion. Thanks for the awesome post. I will definitely watch it several more times.

Probably my favorite Warbirds are these (not necessarily in this order).

P-51D Mustang (Rolls Royce Merlin) .

BF-109 (Daimler Benz DB-605).

P-47D Thunderbolt (Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Radial).

P-38 Lightning (not sure of engine type).

F4U Corsair (again not sure of engine type).

If I could own any one of them it would probably be either a Messerschmitt BF-109 or North American P-51D.
I love ww2 Warbirds!!!
😁😁👍👍👍👌👌🦅✈🛩🛫🛬🛩🛩

By the end of the war the Japanese may as have been fighting extraterrestrials, the technology had become so advanced and weapons so powerful.

This is my #1
I was going to say  SeaFury as #2, but i just realised it was powered by a R-2800 ( F-AZXJ ), I thought it had an original Bristol in it.
