Jerusalem Artichoke: As a privacy fence?

This was my first year growing Jerusalem Artichoke - also called "sun choke". It handled the drought with flying colors and was a true "plant it and forget it" crop. Since I garden in an area visible to several neighbors, I want to be courteous as to how the garden looks. I am thinking of planting Jerusalem Artichoke as a seasonal privacy fence. In the spring it will be short and not block the sun, and during the height of summer, it might provide a bit of a break from the brutal 100 degree days. All this time, it provides a visual buffer to the neighbors. As a benefit, it also puts out many beautiful yellow flowers in the fall--flowers that attracted many bees. After the first frost, I can eat the tubers and leave a few in the ground to grow the next year.

I use it along my driveway (~80 feet) for this purpose. I love it!

A better option would be giant miscanthus. They grow taller, last longer into the winter, and don't spread as quickly as the sunchokes. Sunchokes do work as good chop and drop material though.
