Welcome back to another video here on North Idaho's Five Acre Homestead! If you enjoy what you see please consider subscribing to the channel!

Today's video is all about trees.. specifically Aspen Trees... and even more specifically Summer Shimmer Aspen Trees (very similar to a Quaking Aspen but with better disease resistance). We've been talking about doing project for awhile for now, and essentially our goal in this video is to plant these trees along our fence line. In time, the hope is that they'll grow tall and big enough to provide a 'privacy screen' or 'privacy curtain' along fence to block the views from the roadway. We'll dig into general tree planting tips that we learned while doing this, and hope that the information serves you well and helps out if you're looking to do the same thing.

Thank you so much for watching the video!

Starting tomorrow and over the next several days, I'm going to planting over 100 bare-root trees on my wooded property.
80 will be hybrid poplars (to get a quick forest canopy in some thin areas)
But some are going to be Quaking Aspens near our cabin.

I'm planting the Quaking Aspens for the beauty of them; they are just GEORGOUS trees! :)

For privacy along my roadway: I'm planting Norway Spruce and Eastern White Pine.

PS: After we plant all 100 trees.... we're going to be tired! LoL :)

I found your video because I want to plant the same trees. I see this was posted about a year ago? How are the trees doing? Did they take to the ground using this method?

Notice how the roots are wound around after taking it out of the container? Usually it helps to loosen the roots a little before putting it in the ground. I'm glad your aspens are doing well!

If I ever get property, I'd like to do a hedge row... and it seems that aspens might be a nice addition...
a mix of coniferous and deciduous trees, berries, fruits, shrubs, maybe wild roses, and bulbs... makes for a privacy fence... plus fruit and berries to eat..

I just bought three aspens, about 4 feet tall... from someone off FB marketplace.. He just grows a small amount of nursery stock on the side for fun and a bit of income... glad to help someone like him out! I'll probably plant them in a triangular clump, and mayne place a bench in the middle...

keep up the great videos... This is my first video from you both..did a search on planting aspens..

The only thing better than you posting a video on a Sunday, is when you post 2!!!

Your heavy-duty wagon really came in handy moving those trees and the materials you needed to plant everything. I cannot imagine a better tool to use. We will definitely be picking one of those up.

Nice firewood stack in the background!!! We hope the business is booming!!!

Not only are those trees beautiful and provide privacy, but they should reduce noise and help with the wind once they mature.

Great placement on the trees. Boy, your front yard is HUGE!!! You are lucky to be that far off the road. Man, that is awesome! It looks like you have a dense wall of trees on the side of the property you planted the first tree. Wow, that looks like you have a forest back there. Same with the other side. That is awesome! It is amazing how tall and dense they can grow. I hope to have that on my property.😊

Lolly looks like she was having fun with the water! She looked thirsty!

Great job!

We took some seeds from our Eastern Rosebud trees and we are taking a whack at growing those in preparation for when we move. We will also try the same thing with the Japanese Maple tree / shrub we have.

Question: Will you be planting any fruit trees or any garden vegetables on the homestead?

As always, stay safe and be well!

The fall color of Aspen trees is breathtaking! When I was in Aspen Colorado a few years ago, someone told me the Aspen forests were all from one root system! I was amazed. Maybe you’ve just planted a forest!? I bet you guys really do have a green thumbs and just don’t know it yet. What a cute pup! 🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿😃

I really like watching these kinds of tree planting videos. But ( please ) tell your wife to wear some regular pair of pants. Sorry makes it hard to enjoy this video. 🤨
