Public transport – an investment in benefits to society

Public transport creates benefits for society in a net sum of considerably more than SEK 14 billion each year. This can be seen from a report written by WSP and commissioned by the Swedish Public Transport Association (Svensk Kollektivtrafik). In addition, there are other benefits that are not included in the socio-economic analyses. Money spent on public transport is far too often still regarded as expenditure in the budgets that are drawn up by county councils, local authorities and central government authorities. In our opinion, however, it represents an investment in the benefit offered to society.
