OH MY GOD I COULD HUG YOU. In our Outback 2012 I had to do the process twice for it to stick and be permanent, but I cannot tell you the amount of yelling and screaming this change will prevent. This infernal beeping even if you are just moving the car around the yard is a neverending source of frustration for my wife and I. Thank you for this.

After viewing your video, three times I tried disarming the alarm by starting the car and engaging/disengaging the seat belt 20 times with 30 seconds. It didn't work! Then I decided to read some comments from others who did the same thing. That's when I read to turn the key to the ON position rather than starting the engine. It finally worked with my 2005 Subaru Outback.

I've been living with this since 2005. And that's all it took. Now to go find every single person who thumbs downed this video. I'm crying tears of happiness and relief

~ CUTOFF FUNCTION ~
The warning given after 6 seconds since the ignition switch is turned ON, and the warning function that activates when the seat belt is unfastened while driving can be optionally cut off. The cutoff function is common for both the driver’s seat and passenger’s seat, and can be set with the driver’s seat buckle switch.
Temporary (TEMP) cutoff
1) How to cut: Repeat fastening and unfastening the driver’s seat belt for 3 times within 6 seconds after turning the ignition switch ON. (The setting is changed for both the driver’s seat and passenger’s seat.)
2) Setting lasts: While the ignition switch is turned ON until it is turned OFF. (The cutoff function is canceled when the ignition switch is once turned OFF.)

~ Permanent cutoff ~
1) How to cut: Repeat fastening and unfastening the driver’s seat belt for 20 times within 30 seconds after turning the ignition switch ON. Enabling and disabling cutting is done with the same operation.
(The setting is changed for both the driver’s seat and passenger’s seat.)
2) Setting lasts: Until the microprocessor is reset*.

The cutoff function is reset when the battery is removed (battery positive terminal disconnected) or when the body integrated unit is removed. The cutting function may also be reset when the engine is cranked with low battery voltage. Your dealer can also reengage it.

Reminds me of my wedding night, 20 times in 30 seconds.

You can hold down the release button with one hand, and just push the buckle in 20 times. As long as the buckle goes all the way down. The red button is not where the electric switch is. The switch is pushed open by the buckle tongue.

Jesus Christ, a 20:30 ratio is extreme compared to other ones I've seen. Subaru doesn't play with those chimes

Worked on my 2007 Subaru Impreza. I could actually cry, I've never driven a car that had such an annoying warning. Thank you!! Blessings to you!!

Worked for my 2006 Subaru Legacy. Trick was not turning car on all the way which I saw someone mentioned in another. comment. Just enough for the chime to start, then immediately start the 20 clicks. Thanks for the video!

Omg I can't believe all this time that's all it took. I know this video is 8 years old but I just did it on my 2006 Subaru Impreza and it worked perfectly. I didn't even shut the car off. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

That's absolutely wonderful! Worked perfectly the first time. No more annoying chime to have to suffer through. When I'm working on the car in the driveway this chime was driving me crazy. Thank you so much for the simple tutorial. Worked perfectly on our 2005 Tribeca B9.
Now if someone could tell me an easy fix to the nav/ audio power failure life would be grand. Power at fuse but don't seem to be getting to the console.

Thank you so much! Worked on my 2005 Outback after 4-5 tries. Trick is to pull the seatbelt completely out of the socket, not partially, decently quick within 30sec, then pull the key completely out. Like someone else said, you don't need to turn the car fully on, just until the chime starts. Cheers!

Worked on 2010 Impreza.
Thank you so much man - I get out of the car a lot very short stops where I really don't need a seat-belt in between to maintain upmost safety; especially if wearing a thick winter coat. And honestly it's my preference to be beeped at as little as possible... especially unpleasant beeps!
Thanks again; may you have a blessed 2020.

Worked perfectly 2014 Forester XT premium.
My car with chime Non-Stop as I was driving if I put anything more than 6 oz in weight on my passenger seat. That includes my cell phone. I was forced to reach over add Buckle the passenger side seat because of the non stop chiming.
I can't believe that your solution worked! Thank you so much

Ok I DID WORK… however the timing is crucial, you have to do & undo belt 20x in UNDER 30 seconds or start over.
THANK YOU 🙏🏼
I was going insane😵‍💫
