RIP Ian Lavender, the last Dad's Army cast member. The end of an era, they have now all marched into TV history. Thanks for the memories. 🌹🇬🇧

Doesn’t matter how many times you watch it and you know what’s coming, it never gets old.

This joke, for me, will never get stale.

"Don't tell him Pike", and "Four Candles" - two seemingly innocuous phrases that signify so much to so many people. They encapsulate a very special era in the hearts of many Brits!

My Dad actually met Philip Madoc and said he was so approachable and laughed everything off and was so charming. He even laughed about this scene and said "I've been all over the world, in theatres, productions and broadway musicals. And what am I remembered for "Don't tell him, Pike!" He loved every minute of it.

RIP Ian Lavender and thanks for bringing so much fun and humour into our lives during the 1970's. Forever, the 'stupid boy'.

Have just heard the sad news of the death of Ian Lavender - a long and varied career followed the "Iconic" Dad's Army but surely "Don't Tell Him, Pike" will be laughed at in a hundred years time. Condolences to Ian's family, friends and the countless millions who still watch TODAY, one of the greatest written & cast comedy's Ian

No matter how many times I see it or hear it, cracks me up. Writing, performance and millisecond timing. "Don't tell him Pike", "Pike".

We will never see the likes of these actors again. Modern comedy and I use the word comedy loosly will not be thought of this fondly in 50 years time. Dads Army comedy gold!

Phillip Madoc is only just holding it together throughout this! Brilliant timing and delivery by all concerned. Lovely gentle humour.

Rest in peace, Private Pike, when you get to the Pearly Gates and St Peter asks your name, don't tell him.

RIP Ian, the last of Dad's Army gone. Fond memories of this clip and we all used to repeat our favourite lines from Dad's Army the next day in the school playground.

This clip of a truly classic scene from Dad’s Army shows exactly why decades after it was made, Dad’s Army still ranks at or near the top of British comedy and why it is still being shown on tv today. Sadly, all the main cast members except for Ian Lavender, who played Private Pike, have now passed on but their characters still live on and will always live on in the 80 episodes that were made and they will always have a place in the hearts of the British people and be remembered very fondly and with great affection indeed.
Dad’s Army, along with Fawlty Towers and Yes Minister/Yes Prime Minister, still remains for me as one of the 3 best comedy programmes ever made and will always stay for me in the highest possible rank of comedy programmes.
