"Bird strikes barely cause fatality. Well, except for the bird" Lmao!

That starting video was a fan blade separation test not a bird strike test.

You see boys. Remember, the machine is more important than a bird.

The engines on commercial airlines are so interesting, everything they have to prepare for and withstand in any elements is truly an engineering marvel

*We are already in the big crash, inflation is a catastrophe. This CPI report is a colossal failure. To bring the housing market to a halt, the FED will have to pull all the stops .The unfortunate issues is that the other market are being decimated. If you want to stay green, you have to rely on a lot of diversification.*
*Currently up 15% and being carful. Still a better deal than leaving it in a savings or checking account yielding 0-1 percent interest.*

Afaik, these bird tests are only to make sure the engine does not explode during bird strikes. Engine damages are unpreventable using current technology. But making sure, engines do not explode make sure that planes can land safely in most cases. If the engine had exploded, that's it. That's why tests are critical for approval.

I used to work for United Airlines at SFO in the maintenance shop where we blended Stage 1 Compressor blades and a few others. One day an Inspector was showing me a blade that had been on a disc in an engine where there had been a bird strike. The blade if I recall was off of a Pratt & Whitney 2000 series engine. The leading edge of the blade looked like a big bite had been taken out of it or like what you might think a cannon ball might do to 38 blades. Unbelievable. Even the slightest imperfection on the leading edge of the blades can make an engine lose power.

Man people are amazing.. Being able to make all of this

Damn! Imagine building 50 million dollar engines: we need

-One to throw chickens at
-one to throw water into
-one to throw ice at

And if those tests fail we are out 150 million and back to the drawing board.

No wonder why it’s so expensive to fly.

The thrust reversal is there to minimize the landing gear break stress so that the brakes can last longer, so if a plane doesn’t have a thrust reversal it will have to land at a lower landing speed.

My uncle worked for a company that loaned their air cannon they used for testing windshields to a company in Europe. They tested them by shooting whole chickens much like you would get from the grocery store, at upwards of 450mph . They proceeded to fire one through the cockpit and 40 something rows of seats. So he and a team were sent to see what went wrong. " You gotta thaw the suckers out first!!" Was the diagnosis.

I worked for BA for 36 years. It is indeed true that chickens are used in engine testing but they are not live and bought from a supermarket. Unfortunately, one test mistakenly involved a frozen chicken which destroyed the engine completely!

Cool video! Pilots landing in crosswinds is very impressive.

That opening shot was of a ‘blade off’, wasn’t it? A fan-blade detached with an explosive charge, detonated by remote control.

Little known pilot life hacks:
1. If you turn your transponder to 7500, you can actually get a cool free escort from an F-35!
2. ATC bothering you with constant chatter? Simply go to 7600 to relax
3. Is it taxing (haha get it?) to wait for your turn while other planes land? Turn your transponder to 7700 to get free priority landing!

(The FAA hates these simple hacks)

Нужно производить двигатели так, что бы птицы могли безопасно летать в небе

Rolls Royce are perfect for blending & making chicken soup. You just need a big kitchen to run it.

Where in the engine is the rotating assembly suspended? And how are the bearings that hold the assembly cooled?

I used to watch this at Triplex glass firing chickens out the gun into aircraft windshields.

Are these tests performed on every engine before they go on planes ? Or just for that specific make and model
