Leon Russell's 80th Birthday Concert 2022

Jointly sponsored by the Will Rogers High School Community Foundation and The Church Studio Music Foundation, this exciting performance on April 3, 2022, in the historic art deco Will Rogers Auditorium in Tulsa, Oklahoma, was part of The Church Studio's "LeonLifer Shindig" festivities. Executive Producer Teresa Knox and Producer Leon 1959 classmate Dick Risk are proud to invite you to celebrate Leon Russell's 80th Birthday!

The performing ensemble for Leon Russell's 80th Birthday Concert is comprised of instrumentalists and singers who toured and recorded with Leon, led by Music Director Paul Benjaman and Co-Director Frank Padilla, and including superstars Claudia Lennear and Ann Bell along with Don White and David Teegarden and many other Tulsa Sound legends: Beau Charron, Brandon Holder, Billy Estes, Pete Marriott, Jennifer Marriott, Tom Nicholson, David Thayer, Alan Ransom, Wade Inman, Johnny Williams, Jon Glazer, Jared Tyler Frederick, and Cortez Johnson. Music historian and radio personality John Wooley is the master of ceremonies.

The above-named foundations jointly are and shall continue to be the sole and exclusive owners of the copyright and any elements in and added to the program throughout the world in perpetuity. This performance was captured by RSU-TV of Rogers State University for PBS and Public Television under license from the foundations.

RSU-TV possesses a broadcast music license agreement negotiated by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), National Public Radio (NPR), and the Public Broadcasting System (PBS) with The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI), the Harry Fox Agency and SESAC on behalf of the Public Broadcasting System. CPB pays the fees under each of these agreements, which cover all stations that receive Community Service Grants or are members of NPR or PBS, including RSU-TV. Additionally, RSU-TV benefits from negotiated agreements made by CPB, NPR, PBS, and the Station Resource Group with Sound Exchange and several other performance rights organizations for the use and performance of sound recordings over the Internet.

.i didnt realize how powerful of an influencer Leon Russell was until in my college days 70s vacationed in Toronto Canada. They threw a party for me. Tried to talk to a gorgeous blonde. She was like a brick wall towards me. I mentioned being from Tulsa. She looked at me with interest in her eyes and asked me a question. Do you know Leon Russel? Yes we went to the same high school will rogers high. She was all over me after that... i was like a God to her suddenly! My God.. Leon was POWERFUL MOVEMENT in the ears and hearts of people.. really cool people... and of course one of the greatest studio recording piano artists and concert performers of all time!

Leon leon was the most amazing musician and song writer of all times . He had a very special insight of love and soul that he wanted to share with everybody and it had so much meaning . To me and I'm sure to many people. He was the greatest off all and he was not recognized as he should have been in this world ! This makes me very sad 😢 Because he was so in tune with himself and the entire world . I was very, very lucky to have seen him perform ! When I was a teenager in the late 60's and early 70's I was so in love with him . Not only his music but as a true soul that I was able to connect to . I spiritually felt his aura . I to this day find it a mystery ! Somehow his soul was able to emanate this ! I think he was blessed and recognized the power within himself . That is why he was a beautiful person and wanted to share his life with the world of universal music ! He touched so many hearts and will be missed forever ❤

One of the all time great song writers, piano players. & of course the master of space and time...My friend was Leon's drummer when Elton John found him on the side of the road in the " gutter of life^...My friend asked Leon to call me & say hello & wouldn't you know it...I was not home to answer...I missed my chance to talk to one of my musical heros..Of all time..RIP Leon & Stuart Thompson.
