Hey everybody, Ryan here on etrailer. Today on our 2020 Subaru Crosstrek, we're gonna be showing you how to install the Draw-Tite class 3 trailer hitch receiver. But before we do that, why don't we check this out, and make sure that this is the right hitch for you. Whenever I see the Subarus on the road, you know, they're out there doing a ton of different things, whether it's pulling trailers around, or using bike racks to put some bikes on the back of their vehicle and go riding, or even cargo carriers, you know, the owners of these do a ton of different things. And so having a hitch back here, it's really gonna open up your opportunities on what you're gonna be able to do with your Crosstrek. And I mean, honestly, with this one, even though it's visible, you know you're gonna be able to see the hitch kinda hanging down below here.

I think it looks right at home. And I feel like that holds true just about any type of accessory you put on Subarus in general. They fit right in and kinda match the adventurous look that the Subaru has. With this being a class 3 hitch, it is gonna have that 2 inch by 2 inch receiver tube opening, and that is a very common size, so a ton of different things are gonna work with this. It is going to have a reinforced collar there at the end for a little bit of extra support, and it will use the standard 5/8 pin and clip.

Keep in mind though, pin and clip doesn't come included. If you need one, not a huge deal, can always grab it here to etrailer. I do actually really like the safety chain openings. These things are large and super easy to get to, and they'll allow us to use just about any size hook that our trailer might have. As far as the hitch's weight capacities go, it's actually gonna have some pretty good numbers.

Maximum gross tongue weight rating, it's gonna be 675 pounds, and that's gonna be the amount of weight pushing down on the hitch, pretty high number. And you'll be able to use just about any size bike rack, or cargo carrier that you're going to, for example. As far as the hitch's maximum gross trailer weight rating goes, that's going to be 4,500 pounds, and that's gonna be the amount of weight that is pulling on the hitch. So, weight of your trailer, plus anything that you might have on it. I do always like to suggest so, it's never a bad idea just to grab your Crosstrek's owners manual, that way you can make sure your Subaru can pull that much weight safely.

And with that in mind, if you are gonna be towing a trailer behind your Subaru, you're gonna want the lights to work on your trailer, you know, that way people around you knows what's going on, and you'll be safe and legal. And to accomplish that, you can always check out some trailer wiring. And if you do decide to go that route, it is pretty convenient, Draw-Tite actually has a bracket that's attached to the hitch itself, right here. And this allow you to secure your trailer wiring, if you end up getting some. So you can either just zip tie the wiring to the bracket, or there's even additional brackets that kinda will attach this and drop down and you can mount it up that way too. So definitely a couple options for you, as far as that goes. Now I'm gonna give you a couple of measurements, and you can use these to help figure out what hitch mounted accessories to get. From the ground to the top inside edge of the receiver tube opening, that's gonna be about fifteen and a half inches. So if you are gonna be pulling a trailer around chances are pretty good you can use a ball mount that has a straight chain. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the edge of the rear bumper, that's gonna be about two inches and you can use that to help figure out that if any folding accessories you might have, can be stored in that upright position without contacting the back of your Subaru. Just to kinda compare this hitch to some of the other ones available, they're gonna all be right on par with each other, in terms of, you know, what you're gonna be able to do with the hitch, and how you're gonna be able to use it, and things like that. Really the big, big difference between all of 'em is gonna be how they're gonna look, or the appearance. So, as I said earlier, you know, this one is mostly visible. There's several other ones that sit in a very similar position and look really similar. And then you have the more hidden type ones, ones that'll be behind the
