How Renee Zellweger Became Judy Garland for ‘Judy’ | Rotten Tomatoes

It’s been three years since Renee Zellweger last graced the big screen in ‘Bridget Jones’ Baby,’ and she couldn’t have chosen a better project for her big return than ‘Judy,’ the unconventional Judy Garland biopic that follows the entertainer during her late-in-life London residency. As Judy, Zellweger is astonishing, delivering a performance that captures Garland’s star power and struggles, her dynamism and distress, but is never an impersonation; pundits are saying Zellweger will be hard to beat come awards season and it’s hard to argue with them. Ahead of the movie’s theatrical release, Zellweger sat down with Rotten Tomatoes to reveal how she became Judy for the Certified Fresh film, from her deep research to the intense vocal training that would allow her voice to soar over that rainbow.

Talking of Judy. She was truly loved for years but the studio mistreated her & her talent. Judy once said in her movie "I could go on singing" 'I can only be spread so thin' & she was right. She was flesh & blood but was overworked way beyond her limit. She aged before her time & looked 20 years older than her 47 years. Very sad that she gave sooo much to the world but was left with nothing, but her movies alone show how great she was even if the studio complained of her attitude & myriad of troubles. The final outcome of those movies says it all. Even her TV show was fabulous I thought yet they axed it & gave her more grief. I think poor Judy was born in the wrong time period & how it would be great to have her here today. She was a real hard honest worker who didn't stop & loved to perform though she should have taken time out for herself & look after herself better. Stars today would not make 15 movies in 7 years or run themselves into the ground like that, could u imagine if they did. We'll never see anyone like Judy again & Renee does a mighty great job to play her so well. I hope she wins an Oscar where Judy never could.
